2TM'S Top 10 Things To Do This Weekend


1. Currabubula Art Show


Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May // Currabubula Memorial Hall // 10am – 5pm


Coming in at the coveted number one spot for this weekend is the Currabubula Art Show.


So, if you’re in the mood for a bit of art and culture, why hop in the car and check out the Currabubula Art Show this weekend.


This show has evolved greatly over the years, in fact the very first Currabubula Red Cross Art show was held in May of 1964, attracting over 250 entries over five categories.


Something very special about the Currabubula Art Show is that it has attracted respected judges with significant prize money available for artists.


With over 2000 people attending each year, all funds raised through the Currabubula Art Show & Sale are donated to the Australian Red Cross and this year will support the Western Region (NSW) Drought Fund.


There are more than 500 paintings for sale, including handmade silver jewellery and treasures, plus guest artists demonstrating oils and watercolour painting over the weekend.

Entry is $10pp, $15 per couple and school children are free.


2. Shannon’s Tamworth Motor Show


Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May // TRECC // 9am – 5pm


Shannon’s are set to showcase some of the very best classic, collectible and show cars available in Australia.


The Shannons Tamworth Motor Show is the premier motor show in country NSW.


Local motor dealers and after-market retailers will be on hand to service the expected crowd of over 4,000 and Shannons Insurance representatives will be on site all weekend.


You’ll see a collection which will compete in the categories of best show car, hotrod, Australian, American, European, Vintage, plus categories for the motorcycles from sports to competition and more.


It all opens 9am Saturday and Sunday, with the trophy presentation 1pm Sunday.

Admission is $10 and children 12 and under, free entry.


3. Tamworth Fire Station Open Day


Saturday 18th May // Tamworth Fire Station Carthage St Tamworth // 10am – 2pm


Visitors will get a glimpse into Australia's busiest fire and rescue service at the Tamworth Fire Station Open Day on Saturday May 18.


Why not come along and learn more about what our firefighters do every day.


There’ll be safety demonstrations, fire station tours and you’ll have the chance to inspect equipment and trucks used by our firefighters when responding to all kinds of fire and rescue emergencies.


Bring the kids along as well, as there’ll be child-friendly activities for them to enjoy all surrounding fire and rescue.


It’s a great time to also speak to firefighters first-hand about fire safety in the home; including how to install and maintain smoke alarms and how to develop a home escape plan to ensure they can quickly and safely escape in the event of a fire.


4. Peel Street Markets


Sunday 19th May // Peel Street // 8am


Stroll down the main blocks of Peel St Sunday morning and browse the incredible range of stalls on display for the monthly Rotary markets.

There is something for everyone from furniture, plants, cakes, dog treats, homemade preserves, locally grown goodies, jewellery, clothing, and handmade specialty crafts.


5. This Weekend's Sporting Fixtures


Saturday 18th May // various locations and times


Start your weekend of sport off with the Woodleys Isuzu Ute Northern Inland Premier League for Round 7.


OVA vs Tamworth FC at Chaffey Park, Tamworth from 3pm, East Tamworth vs South Armidale happening at Doody Park from 3pm, plus North Armidale vs Demon Knights from 3pm at the Phil Wheaton Oval. North Companions BYE.


And for your Greater Bank AFLNW Men's Round 4, catch the Narrabri Eagles vs Inverell Saints from 2pm at Leitch Oval.


6. Tamworth Musical Society’s Beauty and the Beast

Saturday May 11 and Sunday May 12 // Capitol Theatre // 2pm


A talented cast, orchestra and crew have put together a stunning version of the Disney Classic film, Beauty and the Beast.


Tying together the three pillars of singing, dancing and acting, the Musical Society have been rehearsing since January—quite a long rehearsal for any production!


For many of the cast, performing in an iconic Disney stage production is a dream come true, especially for Bill who plays ‘The Beast’ and Cara who plays ‘Belle’.

7. Tamworth Drag Racing Association’s 1/8th Mile Drag Race


Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May // Gunnedah Airstrips // Gates open 10am


The Tamworth Drag Racing Association presents a MASSIVE night—it’s the 1/8th mile drag race at Gunnedah Airstrip.


Make sure you get down for the most powerful motorsport on the planet!


Gates Open at 10 am and with tickets at a reasonable price, you can’t say no!


$10 for adults and children under 12 and pensioners free!

8. Gunnedah Gold Cup


Sunday 19th May // Gunnedah Jockey Club


Dust off your Sunday best and get on down to the Gunnedah Jockey Club for the Gunnedah Gold Cup at the riverside racecourse.


Of course there’ll be cash prizes for Fashions in the Field—a great opportunity to frock up in this year’s Autumn fashions, dust off your Jimmy Choo's and show off your style!


There’ll be TAB Meeting and on course betting on local and all metropolitan races.


While you’re gambling responsibly why not check out the full bar and canteen and dining facilities available or bring a picnic basket—there's plenty of room under big shady trees.

Don’t forget to vote and help decide the future of our country. Get along to one of the many venues and grab your sausage sanga and exercise your democratic rights!

10. Colours for Nourishment fun run


Saturday 18th May // Donnelly Fields, Gunnedah // 9am


An amazing event supporting the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.


Gunnedah Shire Council have collaborated with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Gunnedah Support Group to host an amazing colour run event called ‘Colours For Nourishment’.

This event will have participants run, skip, jump, walk the colour fun run through the allocated route on Donnelly Fields through many colour stations and colour spraying arches.


The Colours for Nourishment Fun Run aims to support and encourage healthy lifestyle and physical activities within the Gunnedah Shire.


Get down and be a part of this amazing day—registrations open from 9.00am.
